Brexit – My Views

This is my first post in over a year. The last one was due to a very sad event that affected those close to me…

I didn’t intend for the following post to also follow a depressing vein but unfortunately it does. This event however doesn’t just affect those close to me; but us all.

I promise this blog isn’t simply a record of everything bad that has happened however the only reason I am doing this is I don’t want to put it all out on Facebook, but I do want to record my feelings about this time of uncertainty.

This is not polished by any means, it’s literally a brain dump, typos an’ all. I need to cryvent….

…But I don’t really know what to say, other than I’m bitterly disappointed, shocked by my country’s decision (and subsequent reactions!) and, to be perfectly honest, I’m shitting myself.

There’s no hiding that I was a strong ‘remain’ voter – all the dickheads who voted to leave reminiscing about a “better time”, “back in the day”, wanting to return to those “glorious days” (?!)

GET OVER IT. It’s a new world now. We can’t live like we did in the 70’s. We are one world, one people. The whole idea of segmenting ourselves makes me feel sick. We should all be helping each other and working towards a greater good for EVERYONE. I’M SO FUCKED OFF with selfish, (and lets be honest) OLD people making decisions that are going to affect me and my (future) children far longer than the 15 years they have left on this planet.

It’s been a horrid weekend. Every time I think about it, or hear something on the news etc I feel sick. The only feeling I can liken it to is being dumped. That kinda empty feeling, where nothing feels right, tummy is all unsettled, could bust into tears at any time y’ know? Well, yeah, that.

Friday (24th) was dead in the office. I got one email all day. I think the country was in shock. The ripples started straight away though – that day alone cost us significantly more in invoices just because of the exchange rate. We’ve had to re-do all our forecasts / budgets etc. As the owner of a small company it’s a terrifying time. Not to mention as a homeowner as I don’t care what they say, obviously interest and mortgage rates are going to sore.

There is very little, if anything, to stay in this country for now. Rob and I have been considering moving to Sydney for a while – we want to open Xcite Australia but they seem as bad as us! Above all, the Islamophobia I see on Facebook from that side of the pond shocks me. Don’t think we can go there either.

What the fuck is happening with the world?

The Leavers have lied from start to finish. Every reason they gave and every promise they made they have now gone back on. I don’t know why anyone was surprised though. I just hope they feel happy about what they have done.

The split of the vote is below. The youth know what they (/we) want and its to be part of something. The old-timers who have effectively done this, only voted because of a) NHS funding which they were told would rise to £350m a week (coz lets face it, they’re the generation that need it!) and b) immigration which they were told would be managed and controlled. Neither of those are true or possible. I feel bad for them as they have been conned into voting for something that was never going to happen and fuck me i bet they feel guilty now, realising everything they voted for was bollox and all thats left is ostracising ourselves from one of the most powerful ‘clubs’ in the world.

The straw that broke the camels back was fucking Trump swanning over here on Friday and telling us what a great decision we’d made. Says it all. If he thinks its good its surely VERY BAD.

Scotland will now have another referendum and vote to leave the UK. Northern Ireland have said they want  do the same. Both will then ask to join EU. Leaving us and Wales to fend for ourselves and inevitably fail.

On the flip side, the Netherlands, France and Italy have all now said they want a referendum to leave the EU.

Britain, well, not even, England and Wales could be single handily responsible for breaking the world. Great.

brexit special statusThere is part of me that hopes, deep down, that yes, we do have enough to offer the world in trade etc that we won’t crumble and die but at the same time i don’t understand how such a small country can be so bloody arrogant. No-one made any indication of what we’d get if we left. The assumption that we can get trade deals AND maintain free movement is joke. My bro lives in Spain and the idea of him having to get a visa to pop home and say hi is ridiculous but likely.

As it turns out, I did have something to say.
